It can not be over stated. Once one escapes an abusive relationship, one has to analyse it, and clarify what exactly happened.
If one doesn’t do this, one carries baggage from one relationship to another, especially baggage which doesn’t belong there.
An abuser might insult his wife to insult her. Another person might offer constructive remarks. To immediately take every bit of criticism as abuse is wrong.
A person might honestly say that you don’t look good in green. This person is expressing an opinion, this is not abuse.
Unless one can separate the twisted mentality of an abuser from normal human interaction, then one is condemned to lugging around a bag of useless rubbish from one relationship to another.
