Babies And Miracles

Have you ever stopped to consider just how many miracles babies perform every day of their lives? Well, I have, and I can tell you the miracles just keep on hitting me in the face. I know I’m privileged to live with a two- year-old Asian so the task of understanding kiddywink-miracles is made somewhat easier but even if you take that tube to work or push a bike out on to a busy street every morning to get to your office, I’m almost sure you’ve sometimes given the thoughts in this article your time of day.

Why only yesterday, the Asian babe fell off her bike on to her arm, and bounced back up. She ate some tasty dirt and is now sleeping peacefully. She kneaded ancient dog-mess and got away with it, and she scraped her scarred knees for the seventh time this week.

Yes, I know you will be telling me that babies are rubber and that when they fall, they have about one foot or half a metre to plummet down into. However, you can’t help but admire them.

Two months ago, Alice, the Asian lass in question here, treble-somersaulted and was going to land between the bed and the whirring fan when I came to her rescue, falling off the bed for my pains. My shoulder aches to this day. A few years ago I got Asian dirt in a scratch and couldn’t walk for five months, abscessed as I was.

Yes, babes are miraculous creatures (much stronger than me), creating miracles every day of their lives, and we would do well to admire the little blighters just a bit more than we do. As for smacking them or shouting at them, that’s just not on, given we’re in such vulnerable situations ourselves. We should take a leaf out of their books and bounce with them. They even think, and though their brains may not be Einstein’s, you’d be surprised what they try to cogitate.
