4 ways to urge yourself to run

Even as a seasoned runner I have those days when I procrastinate to run. There are those times when I just go along with it to allow my body some time to rest, and there are those times when I have to trick my mind in order to get that run in.  With that being said, I share with you 4 daily ways to urge yourself to run.

  1. Routes: If you get bored easily, having different run routes can be refreshing when that urge to run is not there. Different routes also enable you to put out different effort whether the route is tough or easy, as well as the people you encounter during your run. Its great to have routes that have different qualities based off of your moods whether you want to be surrounded by people or not, and even routes that offer qualities to comfort you like softer terrain, peace or shade.
  2. Bring workout clothing & shoes with you: Bring workout clothing & running shoes with you and store it in your vehicle, bag, locker, or anywhere accessible to you. Sometimes the urge can come-and-go, but if you are lucky enough you will get that urge during your break-time.
  3. Sleep in workout clothing: After waking up in the morning you have a different mindset, and ready to start the day. Sleeping in workout clothing allows you to get up and go, or get up and go after you finish your morning commitments.
  4. Just do it: As like jumping in a cold pool to avoid that that slow chilling feeling of getting in the water, just going for a run unexpectedly can do wonders as well. The mind works in mysterious ways too when you trick it. You only cheat yourself when you give in to the thoughts of not wanting to run for whatever unknown reasons.

  1. I’m trying to build up a habit of walking/jogging at least 4 times a week.
Sadly, I always give in to circumstances and not doing it.

Since I’m planning to do my running in the morning at weekends, I guess sleeping in my running outfit would help.
    Without the shows of course.

    Thanks for this post.

    • That is a pretty great goal. If I can give you any advice it would be to just do it, or take notice of the time your typical circumstances grab your attention then do it beforehand. Sleeping in my outfit, I would always have everything I needed near, so that all I had to do is walk out the door.
