WIP for Battle Cry

I’ve been attracted to manga for as long as I can remember but my favorite styles are all from the 80s. That was the golden age as far as I’m concerned. The color theory they tend to use may seem flat and garish to some, as it was informed by animation but it looks great to me, just sometimes their pallets seem a little bizarre; hot pink with powder blue and black? That sort of scheme really defeats my sensibilities but they made it work. I might wuss out and just go with Sanrio swatches…

#1 work in progress

This treatment sorta reminds me of Drew Struzen. I've always been a fan of his work and wouldn't mind learning a few of his moves because not only does that style look great, it really hides all the noise from an undersampled render

#2 rough sketch

Although lately I've been doing more fine art style roughs, I've always liked the look of ballpoint on graph paper. It reminds me of doodling in my algebra notebooks back in the day
