The Woman from the Sea

This is a pastel painting I did sometime ago of an imaginary woman from the sea.

I recall a chapter of the book of “The woman from the sea” and often wondered who she was.

So I made one up, a red head. I don’t know why the two figures were drawn but the head has wings, Maybe they were problems that I overcame, who knows.

The actual sea is taken from Piha beach, the gap.

This woman is no ordinary human, she is something else.

My Aunt Cara brought the picture and she’s kept it.

  1. Wonderful work, Pamela. Along the coast of Java Island and Bali, there is a strong “legend” that still prevails today about the figure of Queen of the Sea. Hotel in Pelabuhan Ratu, West Java, and Hotel Samudera Beach in Sanur Bali even provide special rooms for the figure of the woman. One of the restrictions that should not be broken for visitors along the southern coast of Java and Bali is wearing green clothes, and indeed until now, every violation carries a risk of death.
