If you hadn’t noticed yet, I am quite the otaku. While I don’t know as much about the Japanese culture as I want to, I feel like I have a pretty good handle on it. Actually, I’m majoring in Japanese history and subcultures; the gothic lolita fashion is a visually appealing one and I have showcased it here for your enjoyment…

#1 Sugar & Spite giclee print

Sugar & spite and warm bounce light, that's what this girl is made of... Actually, I am fairly certain the Sanrio hatchet is what this piece is made of. That, and some fairly extensive post processing

#2 clay render

The clay render has a much wider and more subtle range of shadows than the final version

#3 notebook doodle

Even though the hatchet is still quite prominent here, she looks kinda sweet in the rough sketch. More sugar and less melange, as it were. Anyway, it looks like our sweet little psychopath has somewhere to be, so let's bid her sayonara and heave a little sigh of relief...

I really like her eyes in this cover image but unfortunately, it ruined the color balance of the rest of the piece so I couldn't use it. Looks great here, though...

      Usually by changing a loan word into the Nihongo phonetic equivalent and then truncating it after a few syllables…
