At the corner of the street

where I roamed

with my heart in hand

legs vagabond

youth errant

and eyes in search

yet of a sign of recognition

from fair sex

from whom all I got

were denials, scowls and frowns

with an exhausted mind

and a burdensome psyche

starved I was.

Wishing for a single glance,

not even of love

but just clean acknowledgment

she arrived at that corner

of the street

same as mine

and wonder of wonders

threw a shy, radiant

smile indicating a nod

of an affirmative eye

leaving my heart and mind,

though quite dyed,

bobbing up and down

in ponds of love

forcing me to pursue her

day after day

and all the time

soon I saw

there was nothing for awe

she was a professional hustler

and ensnared all males

thus, as she passed by!
