I see the meaning in your eyes. But the air around you doesn’t lie.

pieces

parts.

As if you

in dressing for the day

bolt them on

add them

pull them from the box in the closet

where you keep things like that

never in the open

Never in the shared spaces where we all live

only in the box.

As if they weren’t attached to you

and that you could,

pluck them off and

drop them into that box

taking different ones

and choosing them each time.

are a part of you.
