sad girl – WIP

you know I like to paint strong women, but kicking butt isn’t the only way to be strong. my mantra for this piece was something like “she who knows no suffering knows not her strength” which made a lot of sense to me at the time…

#1 vivid

this one almost works. really vivid color, too...

#2 raw

the pose and lighting are great, as is the DoF effect, but the face just isn't getting it done

#3 oil

so my plan is to just change out the facial expression and keep the rest

#4 impasto

what's wrecking this piece are the eyes- they were too dark so I had to lighten them. now they're too light, and you're gonna say "just make them a bit darker" but when I do that, they're too dark...

can't win for losing

I would call the pice “After the dad jokes”
vivid for me is the closest, but honestly, it is a little bright.

The experience of the Sad inducing event is traumatic. Later becomes the veteran of sadness. It feels like the emotional scars that reminds one of the emotional battlefield. I have to go with number 2.
