plush and coshed at best

you were ruffled
clothes disheveled
lips smeared haywire
eyes weary with alcohol
you limped
and your face looked
so blank
but then next day
in a ceremony attended
by 600 strong
you got that pinned on your lapel
as the deserving guy
looked numbed
what is the use
you got a post
then things changed
now they hunt you
for the stripe and post
now you are on leave
for a year
and the hunt is still on!
