Using my journal to look back through time, a glimpse of this cartoon that I drew in 2008 reminded me of the day my late husband took me to the gift shop in the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, California to buy me a culinary themed teddy bear. We named him Chef Cookie because of his cute outfit. It was my habit in those times to draw some kind of cartoon every day, and as we were on a trip I sat down and drew the teddy bear in our hotel room. I cannot believe that all happened ten years ago, because it feels like yesterday.
The CIA is located in the beautiful Greystone Building which was a Christian Brother’s Winery the first time I visited it. I love the Greystone and try to find an excuse to stop there every time I am anywhere near it. Getting a decadent pastry has been one of my usual excuses. CIA opened a new restaurant in the Greystone last year. The year before that they opened the Copia restaurant in Napa. One of the servers there is a mechanical cow named Bessie which rolls around on wheels carrying a cheese tray on her back.
As one might expect, Copia is immense, both inside and out, with waterways, gardens, and live music. In September they host an annual all day Ciderfest.
This is a cute and wonderful cartoon!
