John Singer Sargent at the New Britain Museum Art

There were many famous artists represented at the New Britain Museum of Art in Connecticut. One of my favorites was John Singer Sargent (1878-1961) who is famous for painting portraits and full canvases of people. This is a portrait of Miss Cara Burch, the daughter of the editor of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle Newspaper and a relative of Sargent. When he was done painting the portrait, neither party thought it a success, but today critics praise it as one of his most revealing portraits of children.
