Inside the Corning Glass Barge

We are in Brockport, New York on the old Erie Canal.  Here at the Welcome Center on the Erie we find the Corning Glass Barge that the State of NY has cosponsored with the Corning Museum of Glass to tour the state. This barge stays in each town from 1-3 days putting on glass blowing and making shows for the local people. Here is a view of the show from the seats inside. They have several furnaces that are going in the background and have separate power supplies than shore power. They take the molten glass out of the furnaces and work the glass into vases and other shapes for the audience.

  1. very cool. There’s more of these too in the feed I think. Looking forward. I worked as a glassblower for 13 years or so. I still call myself one but I don’t make other people’s designs anymore. I enjoy seeing this stuff!
