You see the colors on my face but in it is hiding also a picture of you, do you see you? whenever we take photos, do we check to see our own reflections in them. In that glistening pond at daybreak, or the shadow you left on that fisherman’s catch in the approaching dusk of a setting sun, yet, so often are we intent on getting that shot just right, we leave memento’s of ourselves, there, hiding in plain sight. Just like this one of me, there is also one of you, in my eyes.
I am sure you will agree with me, when I say we are living in a crazy world during crazy times, where crazy things are happening all the time. So, if you too are living in a crazy country as I am, in South Africa, and I am what can be described as normal, shouldn’t that make me out of touch with what is happening elsewhere in the world?
I think there are two kinds of people. There is the kind of person who is not meant to live in this country. This is the kind who craves order, stability, predictability and the status quo. And then there is the kind of person who thrives on chaos, energy, adventure, intensity and the inherent craziness of this country. What kind of person are you, What kind of person do you believe you need to become, to thrive in this wild South Africa? Start becoming that person right away or wilt and fade away.
The power of hope and faith are so beautifully captured in this incredibly haunting song, sung by a true legend, Barbra Streisand, singing Memory as only she could, enjoy:
