Not to be confused with the biblical location, this is simply a hill of skulls; which is what the original Aramaic word ‘gulguta’ means. But what a perfect word for it! There is a word that sounds like what it means…
But that word sounds so damn cool, it could mean place of butterflies and unicorns and I would still want to use it for this piece because that is one grim sounding word
I like the warm treatment better because for some reason the figure looks more mysterious.
I will be revisiting this one after I finish up all my pirates and DDLM girls…

I really like the warm treatment. Overall it just felt more ominous. But I guess a hill of skulls should feel ominous.

Yes, I think so. In this works, I see carving on the right side of the bright menhir part.
I would need to know more about the culture who erected it before I could carve anything…
just the background, waiting for a figure to complete the image
Generally I start with the foreground and then work in the background but every now and again I do it the other way around…
I think both are cool!
Are you paint the stone as stone ever carved?
I thought of it as a monolith; they just raised it up somehow and adorned it with skulls…
I cannot choose a favorite on these two, love the lighting and shadows on both.
