Gallery of Things From Long Ago

These images were captured by me at the Village of Yesteryear, South Florida Fairgrounds. Images were rendered into oil paintings using Virtual Painter 6 on Windows 10. I grew up in the 40’s and 50’s, so these images brought back many fond memories. I still call the fridge the “ice box.”

Great Grandma And Grandpa’s Bedroom

My maternal Great Grandfather, Egbert Pane Hill, was a Civil War Veteran (Union) and needed a wheelchair later in his life.   He loved dances and played the fiddle.  He would become overwhelmed by the music and would leap to his feet and dance, to the amazement of family and friends.

Grandma’s Kitchen

All the modern conveniences, with a gas stove and well insulated "ice box".  I remember when I was a small child how the ice man would bring a large block of ice and put it in the ice box.  He would put dry ice in the compartment where we kept homemade ice cream.

A Wedding At the Church

Going to Church on Sunday was what we all did back then.  Everyone in the family had Church clothes that were worn only for Church.  Weddings were a community event which usually was followed by a pot luck and a big sendoff of the newly married couple.

The Portico Of Whitehall

Whitehall, also known as the Flagler Mansion or Flagler Museum, is a 75 room historical home built by Henry Flagler, one of the founders of Standard Oil and pioneer of South Florida.  The mansion was completed by 1902 on land that cost $50,000 (that's over 1 million in 2010 dollars).

The Formal Dining Room

Special holiday family dinners included Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.  The adults at at the table and the kids ate on card tables in the corners of the dining room or in the living room.  Dogs were welcome, too.
