Trondel 9 of 78

I wince blinking a few times before asking, “at what price?”

She winks. “You already paid with your life. Plus, you forged a rough alliance between Omega, the Black Circle and Friends. We all owe you already … so, no price to you Amino. Remember! You’re dead!”

All of us break out laughing as Es, Tol and I had been in on the discussion with Omega, and apparently, Angel and Jut are aware of the contents of that talk. Or is she bluffing?

Poker anyone?

I look at my hand.

I have a full house with Omega as a wild card. Angel has a partial straight flush with hidden cards. Does she have the full straight flush, a flush or a straight? Or a broken hand with nothing?

I’m going to gamble here today again. But gambling hasn’t really been paying off fully for me recently.

“Angel, partners, are good, I’ll move on things tomorrow. But for now! … I’d like to go home with Es and Tol! Okay?”

Taking the roses from Angel, I press her paw in a handshake, though I feel like I’m shaking hand with someone who’s wearing a catcher’s mitt.

Done, I rise from the bed, and still naked I go to the footlocker by the wall, where I open the storage container. I look at the sorry state on my syth-suit.

The outer cloth is shredded by plastic and metal shrapnel bits from the explosion of the rigged iron and ceramic bits of the sink.

Slowly working over the suit as I clean it alone, as the others stand and watch. Each is aware that I need to clean the suit by myself. It takes me four hours, then turning to Angel as I finish and start dressing in the scorched and shredded suit. “Call us a ride.”

The gnollfem nods. “Tairence and partner are waiting for you downstairs already in their current beast.”

I nod as I finish dressing and slowly put on my shoes through the aches and intense hand pains. “Thanks.”

“Yes!” is her reply.

Having bared my body, and soul to those in the room at various times, I pride myself that my mind is still mine. Reaching out, I take Es’ hand as I realize there are no mirrors or reflective surfaces in the room. “Shall we, wife!”

She smiles, taking my hand and we head to the exit door as Jut opens it while Es says, “we shall!”
