Do Electric Dogs Dream of Analog Fire Hydrants?

I’m not having a go at PKD, just taking a humorous approach to some of the questions his work has raised. Certainly the Voight-Kampff test is just a more paranoid version of the Turing Test but Dick certainly was onto something when he predicted the decline of empathy in his dystopian vision of tomorrow…

It's the canine version of the Voight-Kampff test. Forgive me if the concept seems a bit crass, but the piece does put forward a serious question; certainly we would expect an implanted dog to still desire to mark its territory but would a true machine intelligence have desires and preferences as well?

Some dogs don't like other dogs, so why do we assume that all AI are going to get along?
