Desolate

This is one of the saddest paintings I have painted and reflects my mood at that time. In the centre of the foreground is a broken column. This is a very common sight in old graveyards and is a symbol of someone young dying. In this case it was my first wife who died at the age of 42. The setting is empty with long shadows to try to give the painting a somber mood and the title matches the mood.. It was painted with acrylic paint on canvas using kitchen roll.
