Cubistic Nude – 28-03-14

This pastel marks one of those moments in time where you just want to change your way of thinking. I was so fed up with painting and sketching realistically that I frantically searched for new ways. In retrospective I can see that what drives my kind of art is reaching back to cubism without the multi-perspectivism of Braque and Picasso but with a recognizable atmospheric depth. I also am still fascinated by the Gestalt theory by Jung, later employed by artist like Salvador Dali, by which one can see different forms in one object. This pastel shows just that. I wanted to create a plausible female nude built up by simple geometrical forms.

Charcoal and pastel drawing on Canson Mi-Teintes paper (50 x 65 x 0.1 cm)
