Bust of Christopher Columbus at the Lightner Museum

The Lightner Museum in Saint Augustine, Florida has all kinds of Art and Historical exhibits. This Museum was at first the Hotel Alcazar in the 1870’s and founded in the ancient town of Saint Augustine in the 1565. It seemed appropriate to find a bronze bust of the great Italian navigator and explorer Christopher Columbus (Cristóbal Colón) who was sponsored by the Spanish. He never set foot in Florida, but did discover the Caribbean and “the Americas” in the late 1400’s on four voyages. This statue of the great man was done in 1893 by the French Sculptor Jean-Jules Cambos. Saint Augustine was originally a Spanish city and the architecture is mostly Spanish.
