The Akshay Patra Foundation is a non-profit organization which is based in Bangalore. It aims to fight hunger and malnutrition among the under-privileged kids in India. It does so by providing balanced mid-day meals to the children studying in government and government aided schools. Thus the children not only get free, nutritious meals at school but this also acts as one of the main reason that these under-privileged children come to school.
Akshay Patra started its functions in year 2000 with providing meals to 1500 students in five government schools. Over the years, it has collaborated with the Government of India and State governments to provide mid day meals in the schools and has been providing meals to over 1.4 million children from 10,845 schools across ten states in India. It’s now the world’s largest non-profit mid day meal program which is serving nutritious meals to the under-privileged children in schools.
Akshaya Patra has state of the art kitchens in 24 locations in ten different states of India where food is prepared in hygienic conditions and then later distributed amongst the schools through their own transport. This has all been possible with the help rendered by the Government and the generous donors in this noble mission.
The foundation has won many prestigious awards for the commendable work it has been doing. Recently Madhu Pandit Dasa, the chairman of Akshay Patra Foundation has been conferred the Padma Shree award by the Government of India. Madhu Pandit Dasa is also the President of ISKCON Bangalore and started this noble mission inspired by the teachings of his spiritual master Srila Prabhupada- the founder acharya of ISKCON (International Society of Krishna Consciousness).
You can be a part of this noble mission by donating generously for the cause. It takes only Rs 750/- to feed a child for a year.
