2017 Year in Review – Brian Sloan Artist

First off I want to wish you all a happy new year! 2017 has been an eventful year in my life but especially in my life as an artist. As many of you know, this was my third year of painting. My career as an artist jumped leaps and bounds this year so I wanted to take a quick moment with you to share some of my highlights.

I will start from the top left corner of this photo.

In September I officially launched this website www.briansloanartist.com. This was a big step for me as before I was using a free website from Weebly. It has been awesome owning my own domain name and giving people my website to look at.

In July I entered and placed in my first ever juried art competition. It was held at the Medicine Hat Stampede and my painting placed 2nd in the acrylic section. I was ecstatic. My friends and family have been very encouraging as I was starting out painting but it is always nice to hear those words from a total stranger.

In October I started my own YouTube channel and posted my first time-lapse video. If you are not subscribed, I encourage you to do so because there will be many more videos in 2018! Click here to go to my channel. And if you missed the first video, check it out below!

This fall I started working more with landscapes and animals. I was learning from some other amazing artists and felt like I found the niche that I love best. The Mule Deer in the Rocky Mountains painting is just one of the many animal paintings I completed. I have yet to publish the others but stay tuned for them and for future wildlife paintings.

In September I completed my largest commission painting to date. It was a 4-foot by 6-foot painting of the Mormon Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was a challenge to work on such a large scale but a lot of fun. I learned so much that has helped me in each of my paintings since.

In November I held my first giveaway. It was fun to see the activity and excitement on my Facebook page. If you are not already following me on Facebook, head over there right now and do so by clicking here so you don’t miss out on the next giveaway.

I could not have made it this far without all of your support. Thank you for all the kind words, for following me, and thanks to all those who have purchased an original Brian Sloan Artist painting this year. I’m looking forward to an exciting 2018 and I wish you all the best in your endeavors.

  1. Where it says Painting Giveaway, I could just kick myself! When the Niume site existed I shared a link to an art post about Paris. Then Niume shut down and my blog had this beautiful artwork and I didn’t know who the artist was. (O.o) I hunted all over the Internet and finally found that the art belonged to you. I thought: ‘I remember this guy from Virily’. So I came back to view your posts and I can’t believe what I’m seeing. The painting that I scoured the Internet for in order to find the artist was a Giveaway? I could just kick myself! LOL.

    • No way! That’s crazy. Yeah, I did a giveaway of a smaller version of that painting. If you are really interested in getting one, I could definitely give you a deal. That story is worth it!
