In the late 1960s and early 70s, this was the hippie haven of Chicago. The dark building stands where Piper’s Alley used to be. It was full of head shops, record stores and other assorted shops. The white building on the right is the home of Second City, a comedy improvisation club which has produced many famous comedians such as John Belushi.

Editing was done using ACDSee Ultimate 2020. In Edit mode I created a duplicate layer and used that to crop to a 16×9 ratio  and correct the perspective. Then I adjusted the lighting and increased the contrast, clarity and vibrance. Next I increased the saturation in the reds, oranges, yellows and greens.

    • Thanks. There is quite a lot to see but I have to tell you that our crime rate is soaring and the crime is spreading out through the city to a lot of areas that would be popular with visitors. Add to that the fact that our new mayor and the Cook County Attorney General (who is in charge of prosecuting criminals) are completely incompetent and have a reputation for freeing criminals so they can commit more crimes. If it were an option, I’d move.

    • A lot of Chicago’s Old Buildings are being preserved. Piper’s Alley, which I mentioned above, is an exception. There are some old buildings which are beyond repair. There’s not much that can be done to save them.
