The story of my dog Frani

My dog Frani is a 12 year old Australian cattle dog. She is an extremely intelligent, active, loyal and very protective. She was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 3 and survived, we are so happy and consider ourselves very lucky. She plays with her toys all the time, runs after her ball and does all the things dogs do!

Frani continued to live a normal life until her birthday 2 weeks ago; our dog was becoming very lethargic and refused to play. We though it was just a high blood pressure but then one day she got so bad she could hardly walk and would refuse to eat or drink. We took her straight to the Vet and she diagnosed her as having Pancreatic(insulinoma). We have been pretty devastated for the past 2 weeks and kept taking her for blood work which wasn’t getting any better. We have had her all her life and we don’t really want to lose her. She is an important part of our family and we love her so much. We don’t have any children and we consider her as our baby.

Although some may think praying for a dog to be silly, as I said. She is our baby.

  1. can you feed her baby food or liquid from baby bottle? i would just try to keep him comfortable, feed him something soft, and pet and massage him a lot for support and comfort, and hope and pray for miracles.

i know. all my late dogs were kept comfortable at home, until they just went on their own, usually in their sleep.

  2. I am sorry to hear of the latest news. Be with her, offer your presence. She will be comforted knowing you are there for her. I know what you are going through, they are a part of the family. I am a type 1 diabetic, meaning my pancreas doesn’t work anymore. She is in no pain, she feels really tired is all. You can take a small amount of comfort in this. Also, if she is having seizures she doesn’t realize what is going on during one. She will just feel confused. During a seizure just pet her head, and try to keep her still without panicking her. Sending you both strength.

    • I’m sorry about that Michelle, my dad died just a year ago cause he had diabetes. I hope you feel better soon. Frani is having seizures everyday and yes we just pet her even though it’s very painful to watch her. She just pee on her bed now cause she can’t walk anymore, she can’t really stand up and she couldn’t poop for 2 days now. Thanks a lot for your kind words, I really appreciate it!

    • I’m sorry for your loss Michelle. It is very hard to see your dog go through this. When frani was diagnosed the vet said she could operate to remove the tumor but it would not cure her and it might kill her sooner. I don’t really know how much longer she will last though
