Saturday's Critters – Dogs

I am taking a corner to speak about dogs here in New Zealand. Or any pet at all…. Some dogs belong to a loving home and are taken care of by responsible owners, but even a dog that belong to a loving home can fall into misfortune.

People steal peoples dogs for betting on a dog in an organised dog fight. They do it for money and put a family pet against a very aggressive dog that kills it.

Some abandon their pets at Christmas time or after Christmas or when someone in the family becomes unemployed. Sometimes they are found by kind people but often it is by people with cruel intentions..Not a good life for stray pets dog or cat in New Zealand…

In my opinion, people need to be assessed whether they responsible owners before they get the dog..

It is costly to own a dog in New Zealand, and fortunately these animals I have taken photos of are owned by loving owners…

    • People can be very cruel, and sadly my neighbour had the sad experience of having his small dog stolen.
The good news is that he got his dog back again…Now he is more careful

  1. I just love dogs (and cats) and I miss my Tasha so much (and Princess and Belle). At least I have Runt to console me… Here the SPCA (Society for the protection against cruelty to animals) screens their applicants who want to adopt a dog. But even with this process, there are a lot of poor animals who end up in bad homes and hands. Cruelty to animals should be punished much more severely than it is now and dog fights should be banned and their perpetrators jailed indefinitely… At least that is my point of view… Your pictures showed dogs that were happy and well taken care of… Thank you…

  2. Pam, you actually brought a tear to my eye.

    Dog Fighting is horrific.

Stealing a pet from a home, any kind of pet is just awful.

I have to go read something happy.
