Labrador retriever is one of the most popular dogs in the world. There is a widespread opinion that the Labrador retriever originates from the island of Newfoundland, where the fishermen grew dogs similar to Retrievers, who helped fishermen pull nets and collect the fish jumping out of nets. Much later, these dogs were used for hunting. This deft dog with mental stability has excellent flair, passionately loves the water and is easily adapts to a variety of conditions.

  1. Hooray for Canada. I did not know that the beautiful Lab originated from Newfoundland along with the more massive Newfoundland dog. I always wanted a Lab but I do not think I would have a pure one as these are prone to hip dysplasia as you mentioned. They are also slightly prone to obesity if they are not exercised enough. But on the other hand they are gentle, affectionate and playful….

  2. I wonder if these dogs are also good guard dogs? If I ever would live on the ground floor, I would want a dog to keep intruders away. But I would not want the dog to be agressive towards my family. What do you think?

  3. I love Labrador Retriever. I had one yellow Lab, which is really lovely and smart. She was a good companion, and friend to my little boy.
